Washington county was formed in 1792
- the first-born of the new state of Kentucky, the previous nine having
been established by Virginia. It was very properly named in honor of Virginia's
greatest and best citizen, the then U.S. president, Gen. George Washington;
and was formed out of part of the county of Nelson. |
